Scott J. Whitten, M.D.
Dr. Scott J. Whitten, M.D. recently joined the Nevada Center for Reproductive Medicine in August of 2006. His professional interests involve the understanding and treatment of infertility, fibroids, endometriosis, and complex pubertal disorders as well as reproductive surgical techniques.
Dr. Whitten received his undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Nevada Reno in 1995. He subsequently obtained his Doctorate of Medicine at the University of Nevada School of Medicine and then proceeded to Phoenix, Arizona where he performed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center. During his residency training he received every award he was eligible for including recognition for outstanding teaching and clinical excellence. He was then accepted as faculty at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) where he did his subspecialty fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Again, he was recognized for excellence in resident and medical student education two out of his three years at UAB. During fellowship he completed numerous research projects in both male and female infertility which resulted in several publications and oral presentations describing his work. His major focus was on the process of meiosis and the mechanisms in which female gametes are arrested and resume the meiotic process. This work was presented at the Plennary Session of the Society of Gynecologic Investigation National Meeting in 2005 and soon to be published in the prestigious basic science journal, Developmental Biology.
Personally, Dr. Whitten and his wife are native Nevadans and he is thrilled about the opportunity to be able to provide care for couples of northern Nevada. He and his wife have been happily married for 8 years and have blessed with two children. He enjoys almost all types of outdoor recreation as well as spending time with family and friends.
